Our Story
The story of Kangaroo Island Fresh Garlic (KIFG) is one of resilience. We’ve been through the wringer a few times, but we’ve always come off stronger.
The idea for KIFG was sprouted in 2012 when Shane (owner & farm manager) was hosting a BBQ on his farm for his two mates, Sam and Lachy Hollitt.
Sam was an ideas man – he knew garlic was a high-value crop, and he’d already tried growing some. We realised that between us three mates, we had the bases covered. Sam was the instigator and the entrepreneur. Lachie was all about machine maintenance and had a horticultural background. Shane had the land.
2013 rolled around, and tragedy started to pick apart the KIFG originals. Sam passed away in 2013 in a car accident, and cancer took Lachie in 2014.
While the community processed their grief, our garlic plans were on the backburner.
Shane finally decided to push on, persevering through a couple of tough years to keep his mates dream alive.
It was 2 weeks after our garlic harvest, and we lost everything: Shane’s house, the farm sheds, equipment, all of it gone. Miraculously the harvest had formed a fire-break around the garlic shed, leaving us with a shed full of fresh Australian garlic, 2 dogs and 7 puppies.
We sell seasonal fresh garlic and premium dehydrated garlic products, from garlic powder and granules to our famously delicious garlic salt.
